LMAK Series

screening and performance event

7 Dec 2009

LMAKseries furthers LMAKproject's aim to integrate film, video, sound art, and media performance into the gallery's mission and its vision of the contemporary landscape. One particular interest of the series is in exploring the ongoing inter-relationships between digital media, film, and music, whose practices may incorporate improvisation, computer processing, live interaction, narrative, sculptural and spatial aspects in ways that open our conception of both art practice and reception.

Featuring: David Linton, Kamran Sadeghi, and Katherine Liberovskaya with Phill Niblock.

David Linton is a time based multiple media artist traveling the vectors of sound, subculture, and signal flow. He has been active in the downtown NYC experimental arts community for nearly 30 years. Originally a percussionist, David created sound, music, and something in between, for many collaborative dance, theater, & performance settings since his arrival in NY at the end of 1970's. By the early 90's he had retired from performing in the live electro-acoustic vein to concentrate on the vocabulary of entirely electronic music and the resultant paradigm shift in performance priorities that this new 'compressed' format suggested.

Kamran Sadeghi (aka Son of Rose) is an Iranian American artist, composer, and performer who creates sensory environments at the intersection of sound, light, acoustics, and technology. Sadeghi draws from these elements to accentuate time and space, and to play with the awareness that can materialize between their physical properties and the human perception. Sadeghi describes his sound and video works as "animated graphical scores" in which image and sound are created in tandem through a finely tuned generative process, leaving both sources with the capacity to dictate the outcome of one another. www.kamransadeghi.com /www.sonofrose.com / www.blanketfields.com

Katherine Liberovskaya is a video and media artist based in Montreal, Canada, and New York City. She has been working predominantly in experimental video since the late eighties. Over the years, she has produced many single-channel videos, video installation works and video performances, which have been presented at a wide variety of artistic venues and events around the world. Since 2003 she is active in live video mixing exploring improvisation with numerous live new music/audio artists, notably Phill Niblock, among many others.http://www.liberovskaya.net

Phill Niblock is an intermedia artist using music, film, photography, video and computers. He makes thick, loud drones of music, filled with microtones of instrumental timbres which generate many other tones in the performance space. Since the mid-60's he has been making music and intermedia performances which have been shown at numerous venues around the world. www.experimentalintermedia.org /www.phillniblock.com
