Story: Jane Clark

Amoonguna Arts

Our many artists are mostly Arrernte (pronounced Arenda) and Warlpiri, with some Pitjinjatjarra people. English is a second or third language at Amoonguna, which is only 15km from Alice Springs in Central Australia.

Many of the artists paint in vivid colour, with striking symbolic language, based on ancient language written in sand or clay.

The Amoonguna Arts Centre is only a short drive from Alice Springs, on sealed roads. To ensure the Art Centre will be open and to protect the rights of the local community please be sure to contact the Art Centre or Community office before entering the community or click here to obtain a permit online.
From Alice Springs head south and then east on the Ross Highway, towards Emily Gap. The turn off to Amoonguna is on the right, before Emily Gap, and is signposted as Amoonguna Community and Whitegum Drive.

The Community office is the first building on the left and the Art Centre is set back on the left 30 metres on.
